What’s a Concept?

Merriam-Webster Online defines concept as “an abstract or generic idea generalized from particular instances”

For example, you cannot understand the Tariff of Abominations in 1828 or the Hawley-Smoot Tariff in 1930 unless you first understand the concept of tariffs.
