1) Look at the student’s work.

Open Door

The Open Door refers to both the Open Door Notes and the Open Door Policy, which both also deal with open trade with China. In general, Open Door asks that other European nations leave the Chinese market open so that the United States may still partcipate in trade there despite not having in territory or claim to the or in the area. The policy marked the growing interest the U.S. had in the other nation.

Did the student read and write the facts accurately? Can you prove it?

 

 

Did the student write in his own words? Or did the student do what The Bedford Handbook calls “unacceptable borrowing” or plagiarism? Can you prove it?

 

 

Did the student use facts not in the common source—or rely on memory or perhaps make up something? Can you prove it?

 

 

Did the student seem to understand the facts? Can you prove it?
