Checklist of What You Must Do to Begin Your Work in History and May Do (Including Extra Credit)

1

To see the content for Unit 1 (where you will begin your work in history), you must complete your Course Acknowledgement and Course Plan.

Uses the Blackboard Assessment tool, the tool you use for most of your work. (You can recognize it by its icon to the left.)

Where? If you are not in it already, click on Getting Started & Syllabus and then scroll down until you see the icon for this quiz.

Before you leave Getting Started, you:

  • May want to make the link to the syllabus a favorite or you may want to download the syllabus. The Course Schedule that ends the syllabus is already a link from the Course Communication section of the Course Menu.
  • Must check your Course Acknowledgement and Your Plan to be sure it shows a score of at least 1000 points. If it does not, you can click on it again and retake it.
You can confirm that you successfully saved by clicking on Unit 1 on the Course Menu. If you do not see two links at the top and the first folder—the one with Reading Quiz A—please email me immediately. Tip: Look at the information in the first link (the one on what is in the Unit

To complete your Course Plan, you must answer some questions sent to you by email.

Click on Messages/Course Mail on the Course Menu (on the left side of the screen). In the Inbox, click on the email from your instructor with the Subject line Questions to Answer – Due 1/24 (11:59 PM). Then click Reply so you can type your answers directly in the message. When you are done, email from your instructor and then click reply.

If you complete the answers before the Due date, I will record 5 points extra credit (in a grade named GS_Answers). Recording these grades may not happen before early next week.

If you do not complete those answers before the Due date or if you do not email me asking for more time, you will continue to be blocked from seeing the folders in Unit 1 for Reading Quiz B and for Reading Quiz C. (FYI: I do not show those two folders until after Getting Started ends.)

You may post your introduction and reply to another student’s for 5 points extra credit. I will grade the postings with a “fake” rubric, It is not an actual grading rubric because a person’s introduction is very personal, but it will let me record the extra points more easily and give you a chance to see how rubrics work in a discussion. Recording these grades may not happen before early next week.

Where? Click on Discussions on the Course Menu (on the left side of the screen). Then click on the Welcome Forum at the top of the Discussion Board.

If You Registered Late and Need More Time

If you registered late and need more time, email me explaining the situation. Click on Messages/Course Mail on the Course Menu (on the left side of the screen).
