What’s in Unit 2?

This period covers the transformations:

• As the Northern states become more diverse, even in their reform movements, and the Southern states remain as they were in prior periods
• As land expansion becomes the source of both nationalism and deepening sectionalism
• As the South secedes from the Union and the nation begins a brothers’ war and finally 10 of working out an arrangement between North and South (with blacks not being part of that compromise)
