Checklist of What You Must Do to Begin Your Work in History (Including Extra Credit)

1

To see the content for Unit 1 (where you begin working), you first need to use your syllabus to complete your Course Acknowledgement and Your Course Plan.

Uses the Blackboard Assessment tool, the tool you use for most of your work. (You can recognize it by its icon to the left.)

Where? If you are not in it already, click on Getting Started & Syllabus

2

To complete your Course Plan, you download a file, complete information, and upload your file with your answers. Tip: After you complete your information in the file, you come back to this assignment in Getting Started & Syllabus and upload it there.

Uses the Blackboard Assignment tool, the tool you use only in Getting Started because it is ideal for getting essential information, such as how to reach you in an emergency. (You can recognize it by its icon to the left.)

  • You must complete the file to be able to continue to do the Reading Quizzes. To be blunt about it, if you do not do it within the first week, I will not have any choice but to block you until you do.
  • If you do it by the extra credit date in the Course Schedule, you also earn 5 points extra credit.

Checklist of What You May Do in Getting Started or As a Part of It (Including Extra Credit)

1

Try out the tools used in the course and features such as the ability to display optional information if you want it, such as YouTube videos on the parts of the course.

Download your syllabus as a PDF. View or save the Course Schedule.

Where? Click on Getting Started & Syllabus

2

Download your syllabus the way you want it—as your syllabus as a PDF. View or save the 1-Page Course Schedule.

Where? Click on Getting Started & Syllabus

You can also click on Course Schedule – 1 Page on the Course Menu. Tip: To save time, you may want to make it a favorite in your Internet browser.

3

Post your introduction and reply to another student’s for 5 points extra credit.

Where? Click on Discussions on the Course Menu (on the left side of the screen). Then click on the Welcome Forum at the top of the Discussion Board.

4

Look for answers to a question you have or post a question in the second Forum on the Discussion Board. You will find things to help you throughout the term, including a link to a reliable online dictionary and the reasons that you need to look up words.

Where? Click on Discussions on the Course Menu (on the left side of the screen). Then click on the Have a Question? Looking for Tips? Forum.

FYI: in this Forum there is another 5 points extra credit. One of my postings in this topic tell you what to do to to earn the 5 points.

5

The second Forum also includes a quick way for you to test what you know about learning.
FIRST, use the attachment labeled self-testing to ask yourself what you think is true about how people learn. THEN, use the attachment with the answers to grade yourself. You may be surprised.

Where? Click on Discussions on the Course Menu (on the left side of the screen). Then click on the Have a Question? Looking for Tips? Forum.

Tip: This research has been around a long time and I used it when I set up the basic version of this course in 2003. I set up everything in our course to try to help you learn history where it is useful to you for the rest of your life and/or to save your time.

If you try to use this course doing what you used to believe was true, you may:

  • Work a lot harder than you need do
  • Make a lower grade than you want and than you could have earned

Think about trying to use this course in ways I recommend, including in those PowerPoint videos. If you would like a phone or face-to-face conference, I am glad to do it.

6.

When you have done what you want to in the Checklist of What You May Do, click on Unit 1 and begin your work.

Caution: If you do not see content in Unit 1, check to see that the Course Acknowledgement and Your Plan is a score of 1000 or higher and that you have saved the quiz correctly. If you need help, email.
